Did a 22.5 with the group in Alpine this morning. We went through Healey Heights down the trail to the mouth of AF canyon. Near my house we picked up the canal trail which we took to Lindon. Kirsten's husband SAG's us with his van. Plenty of gatorade etc.

The way back going Northwest was rough - heavy headwind as the storm was coming in. When I drove home from Alpine I added up my mileage. needed a little more to crack 50 for the week so I wnt out and did 1.5 miles then added up my numbers again to be sure I was over 50 for the week

Basically the same run as Tuesday with an add on to the Highland City building. went early - nobody else out running... keep telling myself two and a bit weeks to Boston, feeling reasonably confident.

Decided to bandit the race along with Chris who is going out to Boston with me. he ran with me for 3 miles then took off like a hare to do a tempo 10k then waited for me later in the race. it was really windy going west on the first part of the course so managed mainly 7:40's, felt like I was pushing into the wind and it was pushing right back at me. I felt very strong at the turnaround. Bill, another friend who was pacing me, helped push me along with some 6:40's with the wind at our backs and we caught a lot of slower runners. I asked several of them as i passed them how old they were --- a 41 and 44 tear old at mile 11. The 41 year old came in a couple of minutes behind me - his first half, he was really excited. i love to see runners get excited about PR's and firsts.... I don't know where I would have come had I officially reistered so please feel free to tell me where a 1:39:08 for a 46 year old would have got me ???

It was great to see Jo Marshall at the Nuskin building. She always is where I need her to be at St. George cheering me on. Larry, you and Jo are great friends, I love you guys so much.

2 weeks and 2 days till Boston. 38 this week and 50.2 last week, time to taper down to 25-28 this week and rest my legs a little bit.

Oh and welcome to the blog and good luck in Boston. Hopefully the weather will be better than last year.

From Jonathan on Sun, Apr 06, 2008 at 19:32:55

Hey thanks for the support I appreciate it. My last Boston in 2000 was a disaster - didn't train much that winter. This year it was me and the snowploughs all of February. I am getting my strength up again after having three screws and a pin put in my left foot a year ago. That's why last year's results were lousy.

From josse on Mon, Apr 07, 2008 at 00:18:39

I did Boston in 2000 as well. I remember it was Cold.

I woke up too early - 4:30 am  and lay around for an hour before fianlly deciding to go out and run. It was cold and damp, probably due to the snow from yesterday. Took the usual route from my house up to the Cedar Hill's Fire Station - 1.75 miles all uphill gentle.. must be doing me some good it is getting easier every week. Then down the hill West and across to the discovery park below Lone Peak HS, into Highland. back along the golf course and up that nasty hill west of the Timp temple. I tried really picking my knees up today and bounding up the hill. My hip flexors are getting better the more that I do that hill. Back home I made up my protein shake and had a shower . The three kiddos are still asleep.. bliss...

Very peaceful sleep... set off at 6:30 ran up to the Cedar Hills Fire Station down past the Charleston, east to the nursery, then down to the temple and back behind it then along Manila Church House Road and back home. I was starving when I left so ate a huge breakfast when i returned

Nice easy 8.25 with the group in Alpine.. them home for a shower...

Then went to the BYU track meet and ran the 400M, 800M, 4X 400 relay and did the long jump. Did ok for an old guy - our team in the relay beat the girls team, we couldn't compete with the BYU guys in the events but did ok for our age - 1:09 ..400m for a 46 yo isn't too shabby, neither was 11 feet 4 ins in the long jump. I had a blast.... last time I did one of these was 18 years ago. Now can I recover for Boston ??

With that speed you should be able to run 2:55 in St. George if you train right.

Just running to get a long run. Went out very slow first half 1:55 which I have never gone so slow before in first half, then had a 5 min rest then picked it up down the canyon for lots or roadkill and a good pace on the rolling downhills. Just had fun out there today

I was looking for a sub 1:15 as I had not run this race before even though i know the course. I had not run well the last few weeks but went out at 6:40's down the hills thinking I would drop back to 7:30's past Vivian. My friend Bill was pacing me the entire way - great pace, kept me at 7's the entire way. I tried to keep Josse in my field of view at all times and it seemed to work until the last mile or two. Once I saw sub 1:10 was doable I thought I would win my age group - 45-49 but there were two others that I had never heard of. I take comfort in knowing that my time this year was faster than Joe Martel's winnning 45-49 age group time last year  and he is a way faster guy than me. 16th overall and something to hang on my wall made for a great day. i'll do this race again next year.

I signed up a few months ago, but not very good at getting on and posting. I have a lot of runs on my Garmin that I need to put on my online mileage log. You ran a 1:09 last year I see you are a couple of mins faster this year! Congrats ! I'll have a whack at 1 hr 30 at the Provo River 1/2 M

see you
